Scrapping of TASUED is unfortunate - Adebanjo

Share

A chieftain of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has described the scrapping of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) by the Ogun State government as unfortunate.

Adebanjo, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, urged the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led government not to politi-cise education in the state.

He contended that the university, established some seven years ago, had provided oppurtunities for young school leavers who desired university education.

Adebanjo said making the university an institute in the faculty of education of the state-owned Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, would only cater for 25 per cent of Ogun indigenes searching for university admission.

Adebanjo urged the state government to reverse the decision in the interest of the state.

He added that “education is too critical to be politicised. It is, therefore, my view that the government of Ogun State should immediately reverse this decision.

“The strength of our dear state is education and nothing must be done to subvert this.”
