FOLLOWING the bombing of several places across the country by the dreaded Boko Haram sect, there are indications that tighter security measures have been put in place to forestall such occurrence in Lagos.

Nigerian Tribune findings showed that security has been strengthened in many public places in the city, especially hotels and event centres.

At the Lagos Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, where visitors were hitherto allowed to move in and out of event halls unhindered, they are now screened thoroughly with bomb detectors.

Even journalists who were recently at the hotel to cover the meeting of leaders of thought were asked to open their bags and their contents thoroughly scrutinised.

Also, at the Muson Centre on Lagos Island, visitors are now subjected to an interrogation session and were asked to be identified by organisers before they were allowed entry into the events’ venue.

One of the security officers at the centre told the Nigerian Tribune that the present arrangement emanated from the strict instruction recently handed to them by the centre’s management.

Also police on stop and search on major roads in the metropolis now subject vehicle owners to a thorough search with the justification that any of them could be a suicide bomber.

“Do they write it on faces? Even the Boko Haram person that tried to bomb the army headquarters in Kaduna wore an army uniform. So nobody can be trusted,” a police officer told in Nigerian Tribune.
